The Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department was dispatched to a fire at an assisted living facility in Clearwater. Source.
After arriving at the scene, Clearwater Police detectives charged a certified nurse’s aide with a felony. Shadeek Shakoor, 54, was charged with one count of abuse or neglect of an aged or disabled person after the fire at Rainbow Manor assisted living facility where the fire broke out. When the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found Shakoor passed out in a recliner. Food had been left cooking for too long, which is what started the small kitchen fire, filling the facility with smoke.
Three Rainbow Manor residents, aged 72, 82, and 92, were taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where they were treated for smoke inhalation. These three residents were in serious condition and have since been admitted for treatment.
The 911 call came from one of the residents, as Shakoor was incapacitated at the time of the fire. According to fire crews, it was difficult to get Shakoor to become coherent when they arrived at the scene. Police say when they arrived, Shakoor smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and showed signs of impairment. He was taken to Pinellas County Jail.
