Early Monday morning, at around 3:15 am, a collision occurred between a wrong-way driver and a tractor-trailer, resulting in a fiery crash that closed the lanes on I-75 for hours. Source.
The crash happened near Bearss Avenue as a 25-year-old man was driving his car northbound in the center southbound lane, according to Florida Highway Patrol Troopers. Both the tractor-trailer, who was driving the correct way in the center southbound lane, and the wrong-way driver swerved in order to try and avoid the crash but instead collided head-on. The tractor-trailer caught fire following the crash. The wrong-way driver came to a rest on the outside shoulder of I-75.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was removed from his car by a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crew, and taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries by paramedics. The driver of the tractor-trailer had minor injuries. Neither of the driver’s names have been released.
