Nurse Suspected of Sexually Assaulting Patient

On Monday, December 13, 2021, a nurse at Care Center of Pinellas Park was accused of sexually assaulting a patient after another employee walked in on the act. The employee walked into the patient’s room where they found William Ira Cease, Jr. engaging in sexual acts with the 69-year-old female patient. Source.

Cease has been an employee at the rehabilitation center since April of 2019 as a licensed practical nurse, and it is suspected that there are more victims.

Sexual abuse in nursing homes can be extremely damaging both physically and mentally for the victims. Unfortunately, residents in nursing homes are more vulnerable to sexual abuse because they are living in a place where they are relying on the staff, who are primarily strangers, to care for them.

Sexual abuse is just one of the forms of abuse that nursing home residents can suffer from, and statistically is the most uncommon form of nursing home abuse. However, it still happens, and when it does, it is important to seek justice.

Our lawyers know the ins and outs of the state’s regulatory standards and statutes governing nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
