For those who live in the Pinellas County area, it is unfortunate that bicycle and pedestrian accidents happen far too often. Knowing what to do if you are injured in a crash like this one is extremely important.
If you have been hit, it can be easy to get caught up in the anger you feel towards the driver. The best thing to do is to remain calm and move out of the street if you are able. Additionally, if you can, try to keep the driver and any witnesses at the scene of the accident. If the driver leaves, try to snap a photo of their license plate. You should also try to take photos of the scene, including photos of your injuries, the vehicle, the intersection, stop lights and street signs, or anything else you feel could be useful in your case.
The two most important things to do following your bicycle or pedestrian crash are to seek medical attention and contact a lawyer. Even if you do not think you sustained any injuries, it is best practice to seek advice from a medical professional, as some injuries may not appear immediately. Following the crash, you should not give recorded statements to the insurance company without your lawyer present. This is one of many reasons it is important to contact a lawyer right away.
