In early January 2022, a four-vehicle crash killed a mother and her six-month-old infant son. A Brooksville man was driving a pickup truck the wrong way in the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 when the woman turned into the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 from Breaker Boulevard. When the woman turned onto U.S. 19, she turned into the pickup truck’s path, which struck her vehicle. Source.
The impact from the collision sent the pickup truck into an SUV that was waiting in a left-hand turn lane. That SUV then collided with another vehicle that was also in the left-hand turn lane. The mother died at the scene of the crash, and her infant son was taken to a local hospital where he later died. None of the other drivers or their passengers sustained serious injuries.
